SEO Tools for E-commerce Managers

A store multiplies every SEO mistake by the number of SKUs and filters; these free checks help you find the pattern before it spreads across the catalogue.

Running SEO for a store is less about any single page and more about templates. One category template, one product template and one filter system can produce thousands of URLs, and whatever is wrong with the template is wrong everywhere.

Take faceted navigation. Size, colour, price and sort filters can generate a near-endless set of URL combinations, and when crawlers spend their time on those variants, new products can take longer to be discovered. Google's documentation recommends keeping unhelpful filter URLs out of the crawl. Whatever approach you choose, check it with the Robots.txt Tester against a real product and category URL, so a facet rule does not block the pages you sell from, and use the Meta Tag Analyzer to confirm which canonical a filtered URL is pointing to.

Then there is thin and duplicate copy. Product pages often carry the manufacturer description, and category pages sometimes carry nothing beyond a product grid. Across hundreds of SKUs that becomes a lot of near-identical text, made worse when the same product is reachable under several category paths. The Thin Content Checker flags pages with little unique text, the Text Similarity / Duplicate Checker compares two descriptions directly, and the Keyword Cannibalization Checker shows when a category and a product URL are competing for the same query. Use the results to decide which pages get rewritten first.

Pagination is the third trap. Canonicalising page 2 onward to page 1, or loading deeper products only through a "load more" button or infinite scroll, can leave those products without a crawlable path. The Technical Site Audit (Crawler) follows links the way a crawler does, so products it never reaches are a useful warning sign.

Finally, validate your Product markup with the Structured Data (Schema) Checker after every theme or app change, since price and availability fields tend to break quietly. Every tool is free, needs no account and runs a live check on the URL you enter; scored tools return a 0–100 result with a fix list.
