Link Intersect / Backlink Gap for SaaS Marketers

Compare two competitor sites at domain level, see who links to both, then judge by hand which of those domains are realistic outreach targets for your product.

Fetching live data…

Why SaaS Marketers need this

Your product page sits on page two for a head term while G2, Capterra and a dozen aggregator listings own page one. Rewriting copy will not change that; the gap is often authority, and the sites that give it to rivals are the ones worth studying. Meanwhile your best organic traffic probably comes from top-of-funnel articles that rarely turn into trials, so a link campaign aimed at those posts buys little pipeline. Links pointed toward comparison and alternatives pages, where the intent actually matches a buying decision, tend to be better spent.

Link Intersect / Backlink Gap takes two competitor URLs and, optionally, your own site. It lists domains in SeoMods' own link index that link to both rivals, ranked by a 0-100 authority score, and drops the ones already in your top 500 referring domains. A second block compares what two pages link out to. You still decide which domains are relevant and reachable; the list is a starting point for a SaaS link-building plan, not a verdict.

SaaS Marketers specific guidance

What to enter first

Pick two rivals that rank for the comparison term you want, not simply the two biggest brands in your category. If you sell invoicing software, use the competitors' own domains, then fill in the optional Your site field so existing links are filtered out. For the second block, paste two pages with the same job, for instance each rival's alternatives page or a /vs/ page. One run takes a few minutes. Each run covers exactly two competitors, so repeat with another pair instead of looking for a third field. The result does not tell you which rival page earns those links; for that, run the Backlink Checker on one competitor and read the linking pages and anchors.

How to read the table

Start with the cards: each competitor's referring-domain total, Shared domains and, when you entered your site, Already link to you. Then scan the table, strongest first. Expect Google, Cloudflare, Wikipedia, GitHub, Medium and Shopify near the top, because those platforms link almost everywhere; skip them. Niche candidates such as an industry newsletter, a founders' directory or an integration partner's blog sit further down. Authority is SeoMods' own 0-100 score, not a Google metric and not Moz or Ahrefs DA/DR. The list says nothing about whether a domain accepts guest posts, is relevant or is spam, and it shows no linking page, anchor text or date. A domain outside your top 500 may still link to you, so search that site for your brand before writing.

What to do with it, in order

Copy the 15 most plausible domains into your own spreadsheet, since the tool has no export or saved list. Open each one, find the page that mentions a rival, and tag it as review roundup, directory, partner page or editorial. Pitch the directory and roundup groups first because they need the least new content. In the Link Intersect Overview block, the chips Only A links to and Only B links to show outbound links on the two pages you entered. They hint at shared tools and resources, but those sites do not necessarily link to the competitor, so do not pitch them as if they did. A short or empty list does not prove there are no shared links; the index keeps growing and small sites can be missing.

Example scenarios

1. Alternatives page against two rivals

Situation
Illustrative example: A project-management SaaS has an alternatives page that sits behind aggregator listings. The marketer wants to know which sites link to both main rivals but not to their own domain.
Input
Competitor A page: rivalone.example, Competitor B page: rivaltwo.example, Your site: yourapp.example
Reading the result
The cards might show 480 and 455 referring domains, 63 Shared domains and 22 that already link to you, which are left out of the 63 rows. The first ten rows would typically be large platforms, which you skip. A handful of niche domains further down, such as a startup directory or a founders' newsletter, become the first names on your outreach sheet after a manual check.

2. Two comparison pages, outbound view

Situation
Illustrative example: A SaaS marketer wants to see which tools and directories two rivals both cite when they publish a comparison article, so the team knows what a credible page in this niche references.
Input
Page A:https://rivalone.example/blog/best-crm-for-startups, Page B:https://rivaltwo.example/resources/crm-comparison
Reading the result
The cards might read A links to 34, B links to 28, Both (prospects) 9. The chips for domains both link to could include an analytics vendor, a review directory and an industry blog. Read these as shared resources worth citing or approaching, not as sites that link to the competitors.

3. Small rival, short list

Situation
Illustrative example: A marketer compares a niche competitor launched eight months ago with an established one, without entering their own site, and gets a short table.
Input
Competitor A page: newrival.example, Competitor B page: oldrival.example, Your site: left empty
Reading the result
A result of 12 shared domains looks thin, but a young site may simply not be well covered yet, so it proves nothing about the real number. Because no site was entered, nothing was filtered, and some of the 12 may already link to you. Check each by hand, then run the tool again with a different rival pair.

Common mistakes

  • Treating the whole list as prospects. The top of the table is filled with big platforms that link to nearly everyone. Skip them and work down to niche domains.
  • Pitching without checking the existing link. Only your 500 strongest referring domains are filtered out, so a domain further down may already link to you. Search the site for your brand before you write.
  • Reading authority as Google's opinion. The 0-100 score is SeoMods' own and differs from Moz DA or Ahrefs DR. Use it to sort, not to decide who is worth an email.
  • Calling outbound chips backlinks. The Only A links to and Only B links to chips show where the two entered pages link out. Those domains are not proven to link to the competitor.
  • Aiming links at pages that will not convert. Pointing every new link at a top-of-funnel blog post brings traffic that rarely turns into trials. Send the best ones toward comparison and alternatives pages.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find backlinks my SaaS competitors have that I don't?

Enter two competitor domains and your own site in Link Intersect / Backlink Gap. The first block lists domains from SeoMods' own link index that link to both rivals, with domains already among your 500 strongest referring domains removed. Skip the big platforms at the top, then work down to niche sites. Because only your top 500 are checked, confirm manually that a domain does not already link to you before you pitch it. Coverage is partial, so treat the list as a lead source.

Why do G2 and Capterra keep outranking my SaaS pages, and will links fix it?

Review and aggregator sites rank for broad software queries because they cover many products and attract many links, which makes head terms hard for a single vendor. Links from shared domains can help you compete, but this report cannot promise a ranking change, and it does not show the results page itself. Check what actually ranks for your term first; if the results are all lists and reviews, a comparison page may be the better target.

Is the authority score the same as DR or DA?

No. Authority in the table is SeoMods' own 0-100 score for ordering domains within this report. It is not a Google metric, and it is not Moz DA or Ahrefs DR, so the numbers will not match those tools. Use it only to sort the list, strongest first, and then judge each domain by relevance, audience and whether a real person would link to you. A high score on a general platform tells you little about your niche.

What is the difference between the two blocks in the Link Intersect result?

The first block shows domains that link to both competitors, taken from SeoMods' own link index at domain level. The Link Intersect Overview below it fetches the two pages you entered live and compares the external domains those pages link out to, with cards A links to, B links to and Both (prospects). Those are outbound links on the pages, not backlinks, so use them to spot shared tools, directories and resources.

Can I use it for SaaS alternatives page SEO?

Yes, as a prospecting step. Enter two rival sites for the alternatives or comparison topic you want, and add your own site. The shared domains show who links to both, which hints at where comparison coverage gets placed. It will not show the linking page, anchor text or whether the link sits in a comparison article, so open candidate sites and look yourself. It also does not judge whether your page matches search intent; use a search intent check for that.
